Puppy..Monkey..Baby.

Whether cute or just plain weird, brand recognition when referring to Mountain Dew Kickstart will never be the same. This 2016 Super Bowl ad definitely got people talking. The creatives behind it are brilliant! Yes, I said it… brilliant. Maybe I am one of the few that thought this ad rocked.. wrong. AdAge clearly understood the weird, yet favorable message and gave the ad a top rating.

The ad, by BBDO, New York, shows a creature crossed between you guessed it..puppy, monkey, and baby. The drink combines Mtn Dew, fruit juice and caffeine. You have to give credit when credit is due. This ad definitely created a lot of buzz in the world of social media. Whether love or disgust, the hashtag #puppymonkeybaby on Twitter has everyone talking about the PepsiCo brand’s Kickstart line extension. Of course if you haven’t guessed it the goal of the campaign was to achieve just that. Mission accomplished.

I thought this was a weird commercial and to be honest it did not motivate me to try the product advertised. My reaction was the same pic posted by PoliticsJim

Yes, it was definitely not your normal commercial; however, it did get people talking about the brand. I am willing to guarantee next time you walk into the store and see this product you will remember the ad. Brand recognition is one of the first steps that leads to purchase of a product.
