The next great adventure

As I walked across the stage and shook hands with a few familiar faces (many who were not so familiar), I graduated with my BA in communication and a minor in political science.
My father once told me that if I was told earlier in life I would graduate from college at the age of 21 with full-time academics and a full-time job, that I would’ve laughed. He was right. I never envisioned myself trying to take on so much during my undergrad. However, it was worth every minute. Choosing to take on full-time employment while still in school provided me with so many opportunities from travel to graduating debt free. I now have such a great feeling of accomplishment.

When I was younger I always aspired to be the first college graduate in my family. My first ambition in 7th grade was to become a crime scene investigator – needless to say that never panned out. Then after watching Law & Order on television and participating in my high-school’s Mock Trial team, my aspiration changed to becoming an attorney post grad. I graduated high school with my heart set on this ambition. I started my major, which turned into a minor, in political science for this reason at UT. But after taking several courses in this field, becoming an attorney is not where my heart is. Here in the present, grad school is calling my name. I just don’t think I am done with academics yet. There is so much more to learn in my current field before tackling the job search scene. Continue reading
